It's the amount of garbage we throw out. It is not a perfect indicator, as garbage rarely is, but it does a pretty good job of moving with GDP growth.
By the looks of it, the economy might have some tough times ahead of it. I wonder if the Federal Reserve is considering this when debating QE3.
