Catholics and the Papacy

All Popes, between 1513 AD and 1978 AD,  were from Italy. John Paul II was from Poland. Benedict the XVI was from Germany. That brings us to the present. There has never been a Pope from Latin America.

Today, there are as many Catholics living in Latin America as there are around the rest of the world combined (including all of Europe) - approximately 500 million for each category. Isn't it about time for a Pope from Latin America?

The top 5 countries by the population of Catholics:
 1. Brazil - 123m
 2. Mexico - 95m
 3. Philippines - 75m
 4. United States - 74m
 5. Italy - 53m
